Primary research methods
Mass sampling is primary however the data will be put on their website and be secondary
Primary research is getting/gathering first hand information and data. That means you doing it yourself and gathering information.
-Quantitative (root word quantity) Quantitative research is usually numerical and usually obtained through questionnaires. People will be asked weather they like one show or another and then there answer will be tacked down as data. This does not offer any explanation as to why they answered it only provides statistical results. Less personal to the point. Very quick 1-10 can be put through a machine very quick.
.BARB(British Audience Research Board)/ they select a sample and apply it to the whole nation. They do viewing figures.
.RAJA (Radio Joint Audience Research)/ work together to collect audience figures.
.PAM.CO (Publishing audience measuring company)/ for magazines and paper research not watched read.
-Surveys
-Counting data
-Social media polls
-Questionnaire
-Market research sampler
-Qualitative (root word quality). This is where the research is given more information and is mostly concerned with the quality of the data rather then the quantity of it. The results help producers understand the needs of the target audience and what they want. For example this can help the producer understand if the target audience like one show rather than the other and why they like it.
-Observation/work experience
-Interview/ primary in-depth research. Not numerical normally sentences.
-Focus group/small number of people
-Textual analysis
-Product and screen test/game test
At the moment we can only do small sampling such as interviewing Rob Speranza or a focus group which is a primary research methods. Or we would use textual analysis which would help us get secondary information from other companies. But if we are wanting it to be our very own research then we can do observations and work which would allow us to get first hands information and experience about the job.
